Few work areas buzz with the excitement of New Horizons Corporation's production facility. Each workday morning about a hundred service recipients rush in to take their places assembling computer component boxes, correlating informational packets, shrink-wrapping calendars, assembling and packaging products and completing other piece work for which they are paid per task.

"They love to come to work," Executive Director Marva Dale Greenwood says. "They do not like it on days when we are closed. They are always eager and ambitious."

The atmosphere is festive because the 48,000 sq. ft. facility is more than a work place. It is where service recipients create their own community and find joy in each other's company.

Each worker has a choice in the tasks at hand and each is encouraged to work up to the level of his or her capability. Service recipients take pride in completing each task on time and to specification.

The result is satisfied customers, some of whose contracts with New Horizons Corporation extend over more than ten years.
